Board and Train Program
Frequently Asked Questions

Have a Question? Here’s an Answer

Are there any requirements for my horse to be in the program?

Yes, a few!
-Your horse must have had a recent oral exam/teeth floating/removal of wolf teeth/caps if applicable (within 6 months of enroll date).
-If male, he must have been castrated for at least 3 months prior to enroll date.
-All horses must have a current negative coggins that will not expire during the time of training.
-They must have a health certificate from their vet, stating they are fit, healthy and able to train. (Most vets will provide this free at time of coggins, but they expire in 30 days, so be aware).
-They MUST have a body condition score minimum of a 5 (Back is level. Ribs cannot be visually distinguished, but can be easily felt. Fat around tail head begins to feel spongy. Withers appear rounded over spinous processes. Shoulders and neck blend smoothly into body.) If you are unsure, your vet can check for you and give you an accurate score for your horse.
-We also require a current rabies vaccination.
-Additional vaccinations are at the discretion of the owner. Please contact me regarding our policy on Strangles.
-You must sign a liability release stating we are not liable for injury or death to your equine while in our care. We will do our very best to care for them as if they were our own, but sadly freak accidents and colic can happen.

-You must also sign a standard liability release for yourself while on our property.
-You must sign a contract stating in the event of an emergency, you will be contacted, and asked how you want to proceed, if you cannot be reached the decision to call a vet may be made, and you will be responsible for any and all charges.

-You have the option to sign a media release allowing or declining us to use video footage or photos of your horse’s training journey.

How do I enroll my horse in the board and train program?

Contact me! Either through the contact submission form on this website or through messenger on our Facebook page. There is usually a waiting list, but that doesn't mean you will not get in this year! There is a $100 (non-refundable) deposit to be put on the waiting list for the board and train program that fee will be applied to your first month’s board. There is also a minimum requirement of 2 months in the program, additional time required will be evaluated later. In general, expect 2-3 months.

What is the owner responsible for while their horse is in training with us?

Hoof care is also the responsibility of the owner to maintain a schedule of every 6 weeks, and pay for the service. As well as any charges from vet care, chiropractic care, etc.

Will I get to visit my horse while in training?

Yes, absolutely!
Weekly updates will be sent and I encourage owners to schedule a time with us to come and visit their horses and see their progress in person. Scheduling a time to see them allows us to know you are coming and save their training time that day for you to see.
I teach horses and people. Your horse is not an ATV so please, do not drop your horse off and not return to learn along with them. Your horse needs you to understand how they are learning and how they were trained to continue to be successful once they return home with you.
Individual goals will be discussed at time of evaluation; however, no guarantees will be made concerning what they will or will not be doing after 30, 60, and 90 days. Timelines mean nothing to a horse and we work with them at their speed.
